Our Roots

About Andy de Wet

Andy de Wet, was born in Jo’burg, schooled in White River and acquired a master’s degree in Botany in 1980. As a student he started breeding aloes in 1973, with the aim of creating varieties that would be suitable for domestic and commercial horticulture. To gain independence he started building De Wet Water features before establishing CND Nursery, The ALOE FARM in Hartbeespoort and later De Wet Plant Breeding, where he and his partner Quinton Bean are actively working on improving 30, mainly Southern African genera.

Finally many of his plants are now being grown and sold all over the world, winning many prestigious awards of which the highest must be the coveted RHS “best new plant of the year 2023” at the Chelsea Flower Show in the Uk.
